Ecodesign: leveraging economic performance
96% of small, medium and intermediate companies recognise that they have achieved economic benefit or at least that they have improved their image by implementing an ecodesign process. On an average, the profit margin of the products ecodesigned by these companies is 12% higher than the profit margin of conventional products. For a vast majority of these small, medium and intermediate companies, ecodesign has generated positive effects other than financial.
These are some of the conclusions of an international survey steered by the Pôle éco-conception (Ecodesign cluster) and the Institut de développement de Produits (Product development institute) in Québec with technical and financial support from Cetim. The survey was performed with more than 100 manufacturing companies in Quebec and in the European Union. The report written further to the survey is available for direct access in Cetim’s “Mécathèque”.
