EDF replaces steel with graphite on a series of thermocouples
EDF wished to assess the performance of graphite seals over a series of thermocouples crossing the reactor tank lid. The energy supplier contacted Cetim for assistance in better identifying its requirements and to consolidate specifications.
The experts of the technical centre started an in-depth study in order to obtain exhaustive technical information on the graphite materials and their sealing properties. As they could not access the actual parts, they designed a test unit representative of a series of thermocouples and sealing components in order to assess the sealing ability of several types of graphite seals in various situations in actual operating conditions. The tests carried out validated the use of graphite seals and defined optimal installation characteristics. The graphite-based sealing system based on the results of this study is currently being qualified.
