EDF Ceidre reacts faster with Cetim
When it comes to failures, EDF leaves nothing to chance. As a matter of fact, the mission of EDF’s centre of expertise and inspection in manufacturing and operation (Ceidre) is to ensure the integrity of equipment, detect any possible damage and, in such a case, analyse its root causes and propose corrective actions. For that purpose, the Ceidre includes a Laboratory Department (DLAB) specialising in fields such as the analysis of metallic materials and system chemistry and the connections with the environment. To increase responsiveness, the Ceidre also wanted to rely on technical centres or institutes that have resources and competences equivalent to its own and naturally chose Cetim to carry out the failure analysis of metallic materials in the scope of a multiannual contract. This investigation work, now officialised in a contract, concerns parts from the non-nuclear sections (piping, shafts, bolts and nuts, couplings and fittings, etc.) which suffered failures or damage or which exhibit premature wear or corrosion phenomena. The objective is to understand the root causes of such damage and prevent any possible reoccurrence.
