ECT is becoming a corrosion expert thanks to Procor
Further to a training session at Cetim's facility about cathodic protection, ECT, an SME with a workforce of ten people that specialises in water treatment for local communities, the tertiary sector and the industry (hospitals, swimming pools, office buildings, etc.) has decided to take the plunge and to invest in a dedicated IT tool: Procor, a solution developed by the technical centre as part of a research partnership. The cathodic protection technique used consists in circulating an electric current between an anode and the material to be protected, which acts as a cathode. This current is adjusted to reach a potential value which supresses the metal corrosion speed. With boundary element calculation, Procor determines, by iterations, the optimal breakdown of potential and current demands on the component to be protected. It is then possible to choose the most suitable type of cathodic protection and to dimension it. ECT now uses the software on a daily basis to optimise the cathodic protection of its products.
