Aerospace industry: a ramp up that is taking off!
The aerospace industry continues to break new production records particularly in the civil and military aviation sectors! The Cetim watch note entitled “The activities of aerospace players” is proof of this with a report on the orders and deliveries in 2017 obtained by the two major aircraft manufacturers, Airbus and Boeing, which achieved record highs of 1,500 aircraft delivered this year. Moreover, forecasts for the upcoming years are very optimistic including for challengers such as Mitsubishi or Comac. As a result, engine manufacturers are directly impacted as the chain of subcontractors will have to organise themselves in order to take full advantage of this situation. The civil and parapublic helicopter market is also in full swing. For example, in 2017, Airbus Helicopters gained 50% of market shares against its American and European competitors. The watch note also points out the need to use new materials and processes in order to keep pace with these developments! Therefore, as part of a multi-partnership project involving Cetim, Stelia Aerospace, a French company, manufactured a demonstrator for a fuselage panel, with a surface area of 1 m 2 using additive manufacturing and by directly incorporating stiffeners. For their part, the American composites manufacturer Hexcel and the French chemical company Arkema recently signed a partnership for the development of composites based on a thermoplastic matrix that is easier to implement than thermosetting composites.
