A turnkey workshop for Airbus Defence & Space

Laroche engineering and Cetim have proposed complementary know-how, merged to produce an A-to-Z service, to Airbus Defence & Space (Airbus DS, formerly Astrium), in Kazakhstan. The French aerospace group signed a cooperation agreement with Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary (KGS), the Kazakh space agency, in 2009. This agreement led to the Ghalam LLP joint venture, which mainly aims to manage future satellite projects as part of the Kazakh space plan. According to Jean-Pierre Guérin, project manager for Airbus DS, "we needed to construct a mechanical workshop and a test laboratory with around a dozen team members in order to manufacture satellite parts and complete pre-launch tests on-site", for the purposes of these projects. The two French firms distributed the tasks between their teams: Laroche Engineering would handle workshop design, machine selection and the industrialisation of parts, and Cetim would train Ghalam engineers.
