Two New AIF "Window Displays"

The Alliance Industrie du Futur awarded its "Vitrine" (Window display) label to two new companies: Velum, a specialist in professional lighting, and Baud Industries, specialising in precision machining and turning.

The industry of the future has another two window display! Since 5 April 2017, Velum and Baud Industries, specialising in LED lighting and precision machining respectively, can boast the precious "Vitrine industrie du futur" (Industry of the future window display) label along with their 18 predecessors, all French companies.

Velum's industrial site in the “Bas-Rhin” département (French county) was rewarded for its launch of a product- and service-based economic model, with a change in business model on a long-term basis. This requires an extra flexible production system, enabling the company to propose 145,000 product references, and integrate digital features, optimise energy use, place people at the heart of the factory and launch a transformation of the supply chain by sharing heat lacquering equipment with industrial firms in the region.

Adaptive machining

The Usitronic unit, the outcome of work by the R&D teams led by Cetim-Ctdec and the competitiveness cluster, Mont-Blanc Industries, is rewarded via the Baud Industries group. This unit combines a production machine, a handling robot and a control system, allowing the industrial firm from Vougy in Upper Savoy (France) to convert its machining process to an auto-adaptive approach. In fact, the software integrated in the unit automatically applies the necessary corrections to the parts as they leave the machining line to eliminate any non-conformities or errors. In this way, Usitronic improves the quality of the parts produced while enhancing productivity. Note: the innovation trophy was awarded to this technology, in the Industrial Performance category, at Industrie Lyon 2017, the tradeshow for production technologies.

Baud Industries is now considering using this technology on other machines, and even other activities. The company will also open an in-house training institute, to continue improving the skills of its staff.
