JEC 2015: high speed put on show
JEC Europe, the international composites show, will be held from 10 to 12 March 2015 at Porte de Versailles in Paris, France and will feature the unveiling of the first two modules of the high-speed composites pilot line.
JEC Europe 2015, the global composites event, will be the platform where industry professionals will showcase their design and manufacturing expertise ranging from production techniques and materials, innovative projects to solutions adapted to the design, the digital simulation, inspection and tests of composite components.
The first two modules of the high-speed composite pilot line will be the headliner of this year’s edition that will take place from 10 to 12 March 2015 at Porte de Versailles in Paris. These “layup” and “RTM” modules are able to produce parts in short cycle times and at reduced costs, and are tailored to the needs of the automobile, aeronautical or mechanical and industrial applications sectors. “The Quilted Stratum Process” stems from a partnership between Cetim, Pinette P.E.I., Loiretech and Compose. This layup module delivers “Net Shape” parts ready for assembly. Visitors will be offered a virtual visit of this layup line. The Resin Transfer Moulding (RTM) module, coordinated by IRT Jules Verne in conjunction with Cemcat, relates to the manufacturing of complex parts suited to the needs of structural or semi-structural components.
These first two modules are an integral part of the French national high-volume production line for composite parts whose overall and highly challenging aim is to develop “seamless” (from fibre to finished product) production of carbon-fibre thermoplastic composite parts and hybrid composite parts. This high-volume line must coordinate a total manufacturing cycle of approximately one minute. This “national” tool relies on a remarkable set of stakeholders. Under the guidance of two technological research institutes, IRT Jules Verne and IRT MP2, this group is composed of the main industrial manufacturers in the industry (Arkema, Faurecia, PSA-Peugeot Citroën, Renault, Solvay); technical centres (Cetim, Cemcat and PPE (Pole de plasturgie de l’Est)); academic laboratories such as those of École Centrale de Nantes, University of Nantes, CNRS (French national scientific research centre), Arts et Métiers Paristech (Angers and Metz), the University of Lorraine and Ensic de Nancy. Paving and stamping, two other production processes will be implemented following the layup and RTM injection of fluid thermoplastics and reactive thermoplastics. This unprecedented project involves a funding commitment of approximately 20 million euros over the 2013/2015 period.
