“Expansion 2020” on the right track
After three years, the first results of the strategic plan for the bar turning and precision machining industrial sector are highly positive.
Three years after its launch, “Expansion 2020”, the strategic growth plan for the bar turning and precision machining industrial sector, is on the right track. It has already helped this sector to recover some growth and a great deal of dynamism. This is confirmed by Thierry Guillemin, head of the “Centre technique du décolletage” (CTDEC, Technical centre for bar turning): “We have recovered the same performance as before the 2008 crisis both in terms of turnover and employment and, above all, a great spirit of dynamism is boosting our industry.”
In the scope of this plan, launched by the “Syndicat national du décolletage” (SNDEC, National bar turning trade association) with the “Mont-Blanc industries” competitive cluster, the “Centre technique du décolletage” (technical centre for bar turning) and the “Agence économique départementale” (county economic agency) have set ambitious targets: to increase the industry’s turnover by 1 billion euros and the export rate from 35 % to 50 %, to multiply the R&D effort by three and to create 3,000 jobs.
In addition to innovation, the most striking examples of this spirit of dynamism created by “Expansion 2020” are the many common actions implemented by industrial companies located in the “Arve” valley: company groupings in each market segment in order to tackle export markets, human resource pooling or company mergers (creation of the Kartesis group, which brings together four SMIs for a total workforce of 400 staff members, for instance. It is worth mentioning that this initiative has come true thanks to the financial support from the “Fonds Arve Industries Capital” funds.
