An academic association for agricultural machinery
The Institut Polytechnique LaSalle Beauvais, Agco-Massey Ferguson (tractor manufacturer) and the Michelin company foundation have created the first academic association dedicated to agricultural machinery. This association, based in Picardie (Northern France) will benefit from the experience of all regional stakeholders in the agricultural machinery sector.
The new academic association named “Agricultural machinery and new technologies” is the result of the partnership initiated between the Institut Polytechnique LaSalle Beauvais, Agco‑Massey Ferguson (tractor manufacturer) and the Michelin company foundation. It was created with several objectives: developing common knowledge, conducting research projects on specific subjects and providing training in line with the expectations of the industrial sector.
And Picardie has many assets in this field. As everyone knows, many companies specialised in agricultural machinery and farming technologies were born in this region. For example, all the tractors manufactured and sold across the globe by Massey Ferguson are designed in Beauvais. This region also features academic institutions which are useful for the association. As LaSalle Beauvais General Manager Philippe Choquet (see photo) explains: “The Compiègne technological university has certain knowledge in intelligent vehicles, while the Picardie Jules Verne University has cutting-edge competences on Big Data, that is to say mass data processing, and decision support tools which will have a part to play in the agricultural sector. And, finally, Cetim has infrastructure and expertise in a wide variety of mechanical engineering subjects which are essential for research work in the field of agricultural machinery. We are already working with Cetim within the scope of the Industries and Agricultural Resources (IAR) competitiveness cluster and we now want Cetim to become a full member of this academic association. The training courses of the academic association will be integrated to the programmes of the last two years of the “Agriculture” specialty of LaSalle Beauvais as from the new academic year 2016.”
