A partner and associate centre of Cetim honoured at Industrie Lyon 2017

DFD and Cetim-Ctdec both received an innovation award at Industrie 2017, respectively in the Eco-Efficiency and Industrial Performance categories.

It was a good haul for Cetim at Industrie Lyon 2017. On 04 April 2017, its co-development partner Dense fluid degreasing (DFD) was awarded the innovation trophy in the Eco-Efficiency category. Cetim-Ctdec, an associate centre of Cetim, also won in the Industrial Performance category.

Clean and dry cleaning with supercritical CO 2

DFD won its award for its CO 2  supercritical mechanical part cleaning machine, MC4.1. As an alternative to polluting chlorinated, oil and detergent-based processes, this machine co-developed with Cetim based on CEA technology, degreases the parts by exposing them to supercritical CO 2, as well as ultrasounds while they are stirred. Subsequent to low-temperature heating and an increase in pressure, the CO 2 reaches its supercritical domain: through its properties, CO 2 is able to wash like water while penetrating as a gas in a fully dry process. At the end of the cleaning cycle, the parts are output from the autoclave clean, dry and at ambient temperature. Solid particles are removed and the oil is separated from the CO 2 to be used again. One added advantage of this process is that it uses two times less energy than traditional techniques and operates continuously without maintenance constraints. It is especially suited to washing complex parts (blind holes, narrow cavities) on demanding markets (micro-precision, aeronautics, medical, etc.). The first prototype of the machine was installed at the facility of a bar turner in the Arve valley.

Self-adaptive production

Cetim-Ctdec received its award for Usitronic, an intelligent and self-adaptive production island concept which incorporates machine tools and peripherals (washing equipment, robots, inspection equipment, etc.). The communication and synchronisation between the various items of equipment involved in the process and the integrated intelligence allows for self-correction of production by acting on the tool correctors and the variables of the numerical controls. Some advantages for the user include the increased production opening time, the flexibility and assurance that the parts produced will be conforming. Industrial results have shown that the number of parts produced per week has been doubled due to autonomous production at nights and on the weekends.

Usitronic stems from an FUI project and adapts to all types of production islands. It is worth noting that the visitors at the fair got the opportunity to see a practical demonstration of this technology and the principle on a cell at the LaboIndustrie space dedicated to the Industry of the Future technologies.
