A mapping of the key R&D stakeholders in additive manufacturing
An inventory of the skills, expertise levels, technologies and resources of the major R&D stakeholders in additive manufacturing has just been made! The Carnot institutes of the Manufacturing sector unveil their mapping work which features details on 60 competence centres.
A new inventory study in additive manufacturing has just been carried out with 60 competence centres! In light of the ever growing number of French initiatives to provide companies with easier access to these new technologies and allow them to acquire the necessary skill level, this study was a real challenge.
This survey was carried out by the Carnot institutes of the Manufacturing sector, steered by Cetim, in collaboration with the Alliance for the Industry of the Future and the Additive Manufacturing community. The purpose was to assess whether the French additive manufacturing industry rests on sound bases and can play a significant part at global level. All eyes are now fixed on this sector, as additive manufacturing is drastically changing the industrial landscape and promises significant changes both in the way objects are designed and the way they are manufactured: weight reduction, smaller number of components, new functions, customisation, optimised topology, achievement of shapes impossible to obtain with conventional processes, etc. This topic has become an unlimited source of innovations and, moreover, it is now in line with the Industry of the Future.
The study, available for downloading on the Mécathèque section at cetim.fr, includes a significant quantity of data compiled by the Carnot institutes: scope, competences per region and per process, value chains, key figures, identity sheets, etc.
This study is in line with the work previously undertaken, in particular the study entitled “3D printing: gateway to the 21th century industry” issued by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Paris Île-de-France and the mapping established by Safran Additive Manufacturing. Moreover, it was coordinated with the Pipame study “Future of additive printing” launched in late 2015. It gives a mapping of the R&D resources and skills in this field, over as broad an area as possible to integrate, in addition to the Carnot institutes, all the laboratories concerned…
