Workstation ergonomics - Preventing musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs)
Preventing musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) is a major public health concern. MSDs are now recognised as being "occupational diseases" and are the most common of all ailments listed. This situation has far-reaching consequences and affects nearly every profession, as well as companies of all sizes, and is most common in the agri-food and metallurgy industries, etc. Based on reference standards, technical specifications and data, this guide aims to provide a comprehensive review of MSDs, including definitions, the regulatory framework, and figures relating to the issue. The aim is to help industrial manufacturers to develop an approach to participative MSD prevention, with the ultimate goal of achieving ergonomic design, in the best corrective scenarios, to improve a situation, a workstation or work organisation so that ergonomic principles are taken into account. Changes in the regulations and standards have been incorporated into this new 2017 edition (9Q348) of the guide to workstation ergonomics.
