Taking into account the life cycle in the design of machine tools in line with the new requirements of standard ISO 14001 version 2015

Integrating the life cycle of a machine tool into its design: a competitive advantage! The manufacturers sitting on Cetim’s “Machine tools and computer-integrated manufacturing” professional committee have identified the benefits that can be derived from the requirements of the new version 2015 of standard ISO 14001 applied to environment management systems, such as making available sustainable and energy-saving machines or managing the end of life of a machine (pollution clean-up and appropriate recycling of components, etc.). The committee therefore requested that Cetim draft a document explaining the impact of this new version of the standard on their design, manufacturing and purchasing activities (materials, chemicals, components, etc.). After recalling the background, the document sets out the new requirements of standard ISO 14001 in relation to the life cycle of a machine tool. It then sets out the questions that the designer must ask himself in order to comply with these requirements. Lastly, it deals with the regulatory and environmental aspects of the life cycle of machine tools.
