Modelisation of Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) heat recovery on electric power plant diesel engines

The purpose of this study (R1749) was to assess, on a real application (a set of power generation diesel engines – 18 MW), the potential production gains obtained with an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) heat recovery system. Three heat recovery configurations were studied: heat recovery from the cooling loop, heat recovery from smokes and a combination of both. The results showed a potential gain reaching 8 to 12%.
