Data on Materials for Cutting and Drawing for 2017

The suitability of a material for cutting and forming can be assessed by examining certain characteristics linked to traction tests and cutting and formability tests. Knowing this data makes it easier to press the metal sheet into shape. However, the literature on these characteristics is very scarce for traction tests and almost non-existent for the drawing indices and the cutting data. To overcome this shortcoming, Cetim’s “Cutting-drawing, sheet metal work, tooling, embossing” professional committee launched a study to characterise materials used for cutting and drawing. All of this data is summarised in data sheets in a document broken down into two parts: “Cutting efforts and clearances” and “Data on materials for drawing”. In 2017, four new materials were studied: for forming, the titanium alloy TA6V Grade 5 and the very high-resistance steel Fortiform 1050; for cutting, the titanium alloys T40 Grade 2 and T60 Grade 4.
