Corrosion testing of grades of DZR brass
France’s drinking water regulation prohibits the use of grades of brass that contain excess lead. One such grade is CW602N, which is widely used in piping and plumbing fittings and has a lead content between 1.7 and 2.8%. To comply with this regulation, fabricators now offer alternative grades of brass with low lead content. But how resistant are these alternative grades to dezincification and corrosion, which are key issues in the sanitary fittings industry? To answer this question, Cetim’s Valve & Sealing Product Trade Committee asked that the resistance of three new grades (CW625N, CW626N, and CW725R) be assessed and compared to CW602N. Although these alternative grades provide adequate dezincification resistance, their corrosion resistance is more mitigated. The study will be continued to look into the machinability of these new grades.
