Tour Eiffel

Eiffel Tower: transparent and safe

The Iron Lady has received a face-lift which highlights its first floor by playing with transparency. The new improvements were made easier by the dynamic model produced by Cetim for the Société d'Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel (Sete, the company in charge of running the Eiffel Tower). This tool simulates external stresses and the operating load. See the video here. The Société d'exploitation de la tour Eiffel (Sete) has announced the beginning of work intended to improve the first floor of the Eiffel Tower as from February 2012. The target is to make this floor more attractive by renovating the shops and restaurant and by building three new transparent pavilions all made of glass. A visitors' route offering a new interpretation of the monument and a glass floor (for those courageous visitors who are not scared of heights) are also planned. This is the opportunity to go back, thanks to images, to the operation recently carried out by Cetim experts to create a numerical model of the Old Lady. The aim was to produce a data repository of the structures of the Eiffel Tower making it possible to assess the condition of said structures and protect them against the ravages of time, therefore ensuring the safety of the construction which is still the most visited monument in the world.
